Framed Butterfly Specimen | Great Purple Emperor (5x5)

Great Purple Emperor

(Sasakia charonda)

A preserved butterfly specimen, suspended within a floating frame designed to showcase its natural form from every angle.

Known for its rich blue-purple iridescence, contrasting white markings, and warm touches of orange and red, the Great Purple Emperor is a beautifully colorful specimen with a dramatic appearance in changing light.

Each piece is one-of-a-kind, with subtle natural variations that make every specimen unique.

Description

Bring a piece of natural history into your space with this floating butterfly specimen. Carefully preserved and mounted by hand, each butterfly is displayed between clear panels that create a modern, weightless presentation.

The Great Purple Emperor is especially striking for the luminous blue-purple coloration that appears across its dark wings. The color can become dramatically brighter or more subdued depending on the viewing angle, creating a shifting iridescent effect.

Bright white markings and touches of orange and red add contrast, giving the butterfly a surprisingly complex palette despite its darker overall appearance.

The compact 5x5 frame keeps the presentation clean and easy to display while allowing the butterfly's color and intricate markings to remain the focus.

No two are exactly alike. Variations in coloration, markings, wing shape, and texture are part of what make each specimen distinctive.

Please Note

Due to the natural variation in butterfly specimens, your piece may differ slightly from the image shown.

The iridescent coloration of the Great Purple Emperor can appear dramatically different depending on lighting and viewing angle. Blue, violet, and darker tones may become more or less visible as the light changes.

Differences in wing shape, markings, color intensity, and symmetry are part of the character and authenticity of each specimen.

Specimen

Great Purple Emperor

(Sasakia charonda)

The Great Purple Emperor, also known as the Japanese Emperor, is native to parts of East Asia, including Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, and Vietnam.

Male Great Purple Emperors are especially recognizable for their brilliant structural blue coloration, contrasted by white markings, warm orange-yellow accents, and small areas of red.

The shimmering color is created by microscopic structures within the wing scales rather than ordinary pigment, allowing the wings to shift between deep brown, blue, and violet depending on the angle of the light.

Colorful, distinctive, and beautifully patterned, Sasakia charonda makes an eye-catching addition to a preserved butterfly collection.
